Interruptions

Last Friday was one of those days... I am sure every homeschooling mom has had them.  As a parent, you are prepared to teach your child, know the lessons she will learn, and are waiting to see the excitement when she learns something new... Then LIFE interrupts the plans you have made!

For us, it was a refrigerator/sick cat combination... the refrigerator died and Peanut, one of our older cats, was very ill and had to go to the vet. Top all that with the fact that I had to work night-shift, and school was just not going to work the way I wanted it too!  I am not complaining, just trying to illustrate the type of day we were having...

Thank God for Granny! In the rush to get a lot done in little time, I printed off some worksheets for the girls to do at Jeff's mom's house while i took the cat 45 minutes away to the vet's office.  It may not have been the type of school I had planned for the day, but Mikayla and Susannah really enjoyed "school-work time" at Granny's house!

An extra we did at home...

The activities I printed were from http://www.nickjr.com/ and fall/Halloween-themed, so they were not related to our curriculum at all. The one the girls enjoyed the most involved taking a pumpkin and matching the shapes for eyes, nose, and mouth with parts that were cut out. Mikayla has known all her shapes for a long while, but Susannah is still learning them.  She really enjoyed the coloring  pages too.  There was also a connect-the-dot exercise that had Mikayla counting higher than usual.

Susannah loves to color!

Susannah had to match the shapes!
Too cute! :)
Just because my day didn't go according to MY plan does not mean it did not go according to HIS plan. I thank God for awesome inlaws willing to change their plans to help us when needed... This "interruption" also gave the girls some special time with Granny.  They spend a lot of time with their Granny and Pop-Pop, but Mikayla has realized recently that her grandparents are going on vacation soon and is really, really going to miss them!

I am learning to be thankful for the occasional interruption!
