The girls and I have been enjoying the lessons of our Little Hands to Heaven curriculum, journeying through the Old Testament and taking some in-depth looks into the lives of Moses and Joshua. We had a few confusing weeks where what we were learning in school was lining up with what Mikayla was learning in Sunday School, so I was constantly hearing "We talked about that in Ms Sherry's class!" Now we are several stories ahead of her Sunday School class, so that will serve as a great review for the lessons we have already talked about!
Here are a few of the activities we have worked on in school...
First of all, the week we started talking about Moses, the girls learned a fingerplay/song about the "baby in a basket" which has been repeated on a daily basis since we learned it. Even little Susie can be found humming under her breath the words to the song. Here is one of the pictures they made of baby Moses in the basket...
At the end of our time with Moses, I did let the girls watch the movie Prince of Egypt. They enjoyed seeing their favorite stories come to life and made some of the miraculous things we talked about a little easier to understand.
One night, we made a cool counting book. I love the blank board books from http://www.blankslatebook.com/ and Mikayla loved making her book! I wrote the words lightly with pencil and she traced them with marker and applied the stickers to make each page a different number. Lots of fun!
We also built a tabernacle out of blocks wrapped in foil (Susannah loved that!) and had a great time building the walls of Jerico, just to knock them down. Both girls loved re-enacting that story, as we played a Follow-the-Leader style game of marching around our "city."
